Callie is incredibly sensitive. Because of this, she picks up on her rider’s mood easily and will mimic it. With a brave rider, she is quite talented. She loves jumping and will attack practically anything put in front of her. However, with a nervous rider, she becomes quite skittish, and will spook at just about anything. Recently, she has become an escape artist, and her stall door and paddock gate must be double locked, otherwise she will be found wandering the farm.

"hey there, thank you for coming today. please, sit down and get comfortable, this hopefully shouldn't take too long. when you're ready... let's just start off with your name or whatever names you may go by."
Hi, my name is Paige, but most people just call me Red. Curse of having red hair, I guess.

"awesome! thank you so much, we love your name by the way. now to move on, just let us know how old you are and when your birthday is."
I know I look young, but I swear I’m 18. My birthday is July 15.

"wow, you're getting old aren't you? i'm kidding, i'm kidding. anyway, how about you go on and tell us about some of your interests."
Well, I absolutely adore horses and anything to do with them, but I guess that’s pretty obvious. Honestly, I have a soft spot for pretty much anything furry. If I’m not riding, generally I’m working out to better my riding, usually running, lifting weights, or yoga. My guilty pleasure is definitely reality TV, despite the fact that my brother says it’s melting my brain. Although my family is pretty dysfunctional, they are very important to me. If I can’t be at a farm, my second choice will always be the beach, since it holds so many great childhood memories for me.

"good, good we will keep that in mind for secret santa! now, why not go ahead and let us know of some of the things you don't like."
Since my mother passed from the genetic form of breast cancer, I am petrified that I have that same gene, so going to the doctors is pretty terrifying for me. I absolutely abhor spiders. I’m not a huge fan of the winter, and would much prefer the heat over the cold. Seeing someone take short cuts that negatively affects their horse makes my blood boil, and on more than one occasion I have reprimanded someone for doing so. A few pet peeves of mine include snapping gum, not recycling, and not taking full responsibility for one’s actions.

"now that we've got some of that personal stuff out of the way, it's going to get- well- more personal. if you don't mind can you tell us about your background, any family or important people in your life, where you are from, feel free to share as much as you want.
My life started out normal enough. I was born to a regular family: mom, dad, and a brother 8 years older than me. Although my mother never was able to move farther than the local circuit, she was a pretty renown equestrian in my small hometown in Virginia. She was the one who sparked my interest in horses and was my first riding coach. My dad knew nothing about riding, but he was always supportive of me and my mom, and was the best show dad a girl could ask for. Despite the age difference, my brother, Tim, and I were very close.
Unfortunately, when I was 10, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought so hard, but after two years, she passed away. A part of my dad passed away with her that day. I haven’t seen him smile since her passing, and he buries his feelings in a bottle of scotch every night. I will forever be grateful for Tim, because he was the one who picked up the pieces after mom. He was the one who encouraged me to continue riding, and he basically took care of me until I was able to care for myself. He has a wife and his own two kids now, but even so, he makes a point to check in with me every night and he continues to support me in every way he can.

"okay, that is out of the way, now that you've told us about your past, can you tell us about your future? your hopes, dreams, goals, fears for the future, any plans you might have."
I guess after seeing how quickly death can take you, I just want to live life to the fullest. I set my dreams high, because my personal mantra is you can achieve anything if you want it hard enough. I would love to reach professional status as a show jumper and make it to the Olympics, and I think I finally have the horse to bring me there. I’m scared that I’m going to get breast cancer before I can, though. And I know that I can always just get tested, but I think I’m more scared of breaking down and quitting if the results are positive. I can’t end up like my father.

"don't worry we are almost done, i promise. next i'm just going to need you to tell me some of your personal strengths and weaknesses."
As far as strengths go, I’m definitely a ridiculously hard worker. I’ll work on a project until it’s perfect and not a second less. I’m very open-minded, and will just about try anything, at least once. I’ve been told that I’m a pretty good leader, too. My previous trainer said it’s why the horses I ride tend to trust me right away. As far as weaknesses go, I’d say my major one is that when it comes to things other than the horses in my care, I’m pretty scatterbrained. My brother always says that I’d lose my head if it wasn’t attached to me. I’m also fearless, especially when it comes to horses, which has landed me in the hospital on more than one occasion. Finally, I have a real hard time keeping my mouth shut when I know someone is wrong, whether it’s someone who is my equal or my superior, and I can be pretty stubborn when it’s something I strongly believe in.

"final two questions, i promise. how would your friends describe you?"
I think the first thing that comes to most people’s mind is determined. I know what I want out of life and I’m not afraid to go get it. I guess this has matured me as well. Where my friends are interested in drinking and boys, I’ve just never seen the point. I’ve been often told that I have a pretty dry sense of humor. I don’t know, I think I’m funny.

"last question. now that we know what your friends would describe you, what do you think you like, what are you really like?"
My friends aren’t far off, but most of them didn’t know me before my mother passed away. Everything I do, I do in her memory. I guess that’s mostly my fault; I don’t like to bring up the past. But I also have more of a sense of humor than they realize. Most people only ever see me in a serious light, but I love practical jokes and sarcasm, too. When it’s appropriate, of course.

"alrighty. thank you for putting up with all our questions today and we hope you have a great rest of your day."
Thank you for your considerations. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
